Landon FINALLY cooperated and let me take some pictures of him and Layla together. I discovered that by laying him down next to her rather than trying to prop her up against him, he was much more willing to sit still.

Looking up at her big brother!

Both sticking their tongues out. Perfect.

My two sweet kiddos
Landon has started showing a lot more interest in Layla the past few days. He crouches down to look at her a lot and has wanted to touch her more (which is sweet but dangerous) Tonight he even kissed the back of her head twice! Such a sweet older brother :)

I also made some collage pics of some of their early pictures side by side to compare if they look alike. What do you think?

Although they don't look like twins, I think you can definitely tell they're siblings!!

In response to my last post, Layla decided to reverse her sleeping habits again; she's done really well the past three nights, usually going 4 hours between feedings. Last night she ate at 9:30 and went to bed and didn't wake up till 2:55 for her next feeding!!! Incredible!!! Maybe I shouldn't post this in case she decides to reverse trends again...

Little Updates

* Well the first update is a pretty obvious one - I got my blog title/header changed! We're up to date with our new family of four now. Accomplishment!

* This sleeping beauty has actually been regressing in her sleeping habits. Gone are the days of going 3 1/2 or 4 hours between feedings at night. The past few days we've been lucky if we make it to 3 hours between feedings at night. It's been a little frustrating, but at least I'm waking up to hold my Little Love, so that makes it bearable. I'll be ok if she decides to switch back though :)

* When we went in for Landon's 18 month doctor appt I had them check Layla's weight as well just to make sure she was gaining weight since she hadn't really gained much at her 5 day check up (she was 7 lbs. 10 oz. then). Well, no need to worry since she was 9 lbs. 3 oz! That's about a pound and a half in 2 weeks. I no longer feel concerned and/or guilty about the fact that she only eats for like, 5 minutes on the first side and 3 or 4 minutes on the second. We're clearly not lacking for nutrition here.
Looks like those little cheeks will keep growing!
* On Thursday morning Layla stayed home with Dad while I took Landon to get his second hair cut. This time we went to my hair stylist, Lindsey, and we had a much better experience than last time! Probably helps that he was a couple of months older this time.
Sitting like a big boy! Checking out the cape
It also could have had something to do with the fact that Lindsey gave him a lollipop to occupy him. Bribery!

Regardless, he actually sat relatively still this time (for Landon) and I didn't have to choke hold him a single time! He also barely cried - only a little when Lindsey used the hair clippers around his neck/ears. After the cut was all over he looked a little bit like he had a beard from the hair sticking to his sucker-sticky face!
No real beards for a LONG time Landon
Finished product!

Thanks Lindsey!
Landon loved Lindsey (could be the lollipop). He stuck right with her while we checked out and watched her run the credit card machine. He may have stayed all day, especially if there were more lollipops involved!
I'm a little sad about how old his new haircut makes him look - where's my baby boy?! But Lindsey did an amazing job and Landon no longer has wild hair. Success!

18 Months

Wow how did this happen?! Landon is already a year and a half old. It feels like just yesterday that I was writing Landon's 6 month post lamenting about how he was already halfway to a year old. And now here we are a year later already. Monday night Kyle & I looked at each other and said, "He looks like such a little boy today." So apparently Landon decided to celebrate his 18 month birthday by becoming a boy instead of a toddler!

I waited till today to do his update because he had his 18 month doctor appt this afternoon. Turns out we have a really smart football player on our hands. He was 32.5 inches tall - 56th percentile. He weighed 27 lbs. 6 oz. - 70th percentile. And his head circumference was 49 cm - 80th percentile! He's wearing mostly 18 month sized clothes although on the warm days he's been in 24 month clothes because all his shorts and short sleeves are in 24 month size.
Landon is still the happiest little boy. From the minute he wakes up in the morning he's happy and smiling.
Doesn't his hair look reddish in this pic? Weird!
Landon still sleeps really well although not quite as long as he used to. He usually sleeps at night for right around 12 hours. I've started waking him up a lot of mornings by 9 or 9:30 if he isn't up already because he does better taking 2 naps a day instead of just 1 in the afternoon. So he typically takes two 2 hour naps each day.
When he's awake, Landon has TONS of energy. He runs around all over the house from activity to activity. I just love the way he runs too, because he almost bounces from foot to foot back and forth and he just looks so cute!
Most of Landon's favorite activities are still the same. He still loves to look at books, and he loves to build with his blocks (which he's getting incredible at). He also loves to throw balls and has a really good arm! He even gets some nice arch on it sometimes. He has also recently started playing with all of his cars and trucks actually as cars and not just throwing them around.
But of course, his favorite thing is to be outside.
Thankfully we've been having incredible weather recently so he's actually been able to spend a lot of time outside. He even helped out with some yard work on Sunday when Kyle had some of his guys over helping rake up the yard!

He's just Daddy's little buddy :)  He would gladly play with Daddy all day long. He just has to settle for me most of the time :)

Landon is still a great eater and will eat almost anything we put in front of him, as long as it's what we're having. We've started having to just feed him off of our plates instead of making him his own at dinner because even if it's the exact same thing he gets worried that it's not!
Landon's verbal skills are developing a little bit more. He says, Mama, Daddy, Yeah (favorite word), Wow, Whoa, All Done, Did It, Hi, and he's added a couple more animal sounds to Moo:
Yes I realize it's not quite "Woof Woof" for the doggie, but we'll take what we can get at this point.
He's also started doing baby sign language for "please" (puts his hand on his chest) whenever he wants something. Once he figured out that was the magic ticket to get what he wants, he walks around doing it all.the.time for everything. He doesn't seem to understand why we still tell him no sometimes when it's something he shouldn't have, so he'll very emphatically pound both hands on his chest thinking that will do the trick. Sorry, Landon.

Like any 18 month old, Landon is starting to get a little more mischievous as well. He knows all the things he's not supposed to do (pull the blinds, take the clothes out of his dresser drawers, touch the space heater, play with the Kleenex box...) so as soon as he thinks we're not looking he tries to do any number of those things. And as soon as he knows he's caught he throws whatever he's holding that he's not supposed to and either runs away or starts taking steps backwards with this manipulative little smile. He's so silly. And as happy as he is, he can be plenty dramatic throwing himself on the ground when he doesn't get what he wants.
Regardless of any temper tantrums or messes made, we obsessively love our firstborn. Having Layla hasn't made us love him any less, and nothing ever will!
Happy 18 months sweet Punkin'!

Life With Layla

Yes, the title of this post reminds me that I indeed need to change my header/title of my blog. It will happen eventually.
Prepare yourself for picture overload. Ready, go.

My Little Love is 2 weeks old today! Here's a little of what life has looked like the past couple of weeks.
We've had many more "first times"
Her first bath at home. She definitely wasn't crazy about it, but didn't hate it completely. Her favorite thing at bath time is when we just drape the warm, wet washcloth over her belly and let her just relax. Stole that trick from the nurse at the hospital!

Then last week on Thursday she had her first doctor check up. She weighed 7 lbs. 10 oz. and the doctor said she was looking great!

This week my mom was in town for a few days to help out so we took Layla for her first walk. Landon was way more excited about it than she was. She just slept :)

And last night Layla went to her first StuMo large group meeting! She got to see lots of students...well, "see" through her closed eyelids.

Landon is slowly getting used to his little sister. We're alternating between calling her "Sissy" and "Layla" to him to see what he picks up on saying first. Our best bet to get them close together is to let Landon watch a movie.

Or I just stand guard over Layla and let them both play on the floor at the same time.
Watching Big Brother play!
She's had lots of visitors to come meet her for the first time, including her Uncle Travis, Aunt Mandy & Cousin Alycen last Saturday!
Alycen got to practice for when her little sister comes in June

Sisters with our daughters!
Layla has been an incredible baby so far. She's eating well, although she's SO hard to keep awake, so she typically only eats for 10 minutes total at each feeding. But she's still sleeping well, so I figure she must be getting enough food! The past few nights she's done really well sleeping, going 3 1/2 to 4 hours between feedings sometimes, although she averages more like 3 hours. She never cries; she barely even cries when she's hungry, just whines enough to let me know she's ready. And she's learning to be a heavy sleeper through all of her brother's yelling and screaming (not upset screaming, just playing screaming. Well, sometimes upset screaming). She likes her pacifier but doesn't LOVE it like Landon did. When she can get them into her mouth she also likes sucking on her fingers/thumb.

As for me, I'm a little obsessed with my beautiful little girl.

I'm obsessed with snuggling her, kissing her, dressing her up in cute outfits, staring at her pretty blue eyes, finding matching hairbows for her outfits, showing her off to people, and snuggling her some more! I'm pretty obsessed with how PRETTY she is!

Also obsessed with those sweet little toes!

You'll never convince me that she's not beautiful!

So far, Life With Layla has been pretty special. We're loving every minute!

Landon's Many Talents

Just making sure Landon still gets some air time amidst all the Layla posts :)

Landon putting together a puzzle:
I mean, I'm impressed he can do that at 17 months old.

Must have been a good story!!

And a few pics of my Little Love, just for good measure :)

Layla's Birth Story & Welcome Home

Landon and Layla are both napping, so thought I'd take advantage of the quiet moment to share Layla's birth story (and of course lots of pictures of my little beauty).

We arrived at the hospital at 7:15 Friday morning to get checked in for the induction. At about 8:00 all the paperwork was signed, we were settled into our delivery room and they started Pitocin in my IV.
Let the process begin! Waiting for Layla
I was already dilated to a 4 before going in. The contractions started coming but weren't very intense yet. At about 8:45 my doctor came in and broke my water. She told me I could get my epidural anytime I wanted to. After that the contractions started picking up in frequency and intensity. By 9:30 the contractions were starting to get really painful, but I wanted to wait till my doctor came back to check my progress before I asked for my epidural (mistake!) A little before 10:00 my doctor came back in to check and said I was dilated to almost 6 and that I needed to go ahead and get my epidural before things progressed too much more. Unfortunately the anesthetist was on call and not actually at the hospital, so it took him about a half hour to get there. During that time my contractions were so intense and coming almost right on top of each other with no break in between. I told Kyle I wished I had asked for the epidural sooner!
The guy finally got there and started the epidural process, which of course takes about another half hour, so it wasn't until 11:00 that I actually got it, and then it took a few minutes to start kicking in of course. Right after the epidural was done the nurse checked me and I was dilated to between 7 and 8. Glad I got the epidural when I did, because things moved FAST after that. Even though I had the epidural and wasn't feeling my contractions as much, I suddenly had an intense pressure type pain in my lower uterus and asked the nurse about it. She checked me again at 11:10 and I was completely dilated all the way. The nurse went to get my doctor and they got everything set up and by 11:25 I started pushing. Pushed over three contractions and Layla was born at 11:35 a.m.!!
One of the best moments of my life

Holding onto Daddy's finger getting cleaned up

A little bit later my parents and Kyle's parents came up to the hospital with Landon (had to wake him up from his nap!) They came to the delivery room and we introduced Layla Noel for the first time!
Landon was not really all that interested in her :) He mostly just wanted to run around. They all left to go get some lunch so Kyle and I just held and snuggled our little girl. After the epidural wore off I got to move over to our normal room, and then we went to the nursery to watch Layla's first bath.
She wasn't a fan of actually being cleaned off but she sure loved lounging in the hot tub :)
After Landon woke up from his next nap our parents brought him back over to the hospital for another visit.
Once again, he didn't really care. But it was sure wonderful to see him - even in the midst of welcoming Layla I missed my Punkin'!

A few friends came to visit that evening, and we just snuggled away with our pretty girl. We sent her to the nursery at about 11:30 so we could get a few hours of good sleep - only had to feed her once in the middle of the night!
Next morning my parents came back to visit for a bit before they had to head home (tax season for my dad the accountant!) A little later Kyle's parents brought Landon back over.
Landon was more entertained climbing in and out of the cupboards than he was by Layla :)

They took Landon home for his nap, and we had a few other friends come by to visit (though not nearly as many as Landon). Then we got packed up to head home around 5:00 since we both had the all clear from the doctors to leave.
Dressed and ready to go home!

I know I'm biased, but I'm pretty sure Layla is the prettiest baby girl to ever leave that hospital :)
We got home and tried to take some family pictures with Landon, but he wasn't super cooperative.
Welcome home Layla!

Closest thing we could get to a sibling picture
Daddy's girl :)

All swaddled up for bedtime!
We headed to bed as a family of four - all three rooms upstairs full for the first time!
So far Layla has been eating really well and sleeping pretty well too - she's been waking up about every 3 hours at night to eat, sometimes 2 1/2. Much better than the 2 hours Landon woke up the first couple of weeks. It also takes a lot less time to feed her in the night than it did with Landon - probably because I'm not such a Nazi about trying to get her to eat for 15 minutes on each side like I did with Landon. If she's done after 7 or 8 minutes, we just go with it! So I've actually slept a little more at night than I did the first week with Landon. We'll see if that continues!
We're so in love with our little beauty.
My little Layla love
